HIV/AIDS situation continues to worsen in China with 18,543 new cases of this disease looming out just in the first half of this year. Shockingly, if this goes on spiraling like this then none can stop the prediction, claiming China to have 10 million people by the year 2010, from its fruition.
Shockingly, this time credit for rise goes not mainly to unsafe sex, but to the growing trend of drug abuse. All this invokes the need of reshaping our strategy against HIV/AIDS that continues to handle it merely as a sex-borne disease.
It is important to mention that HIV/AIDS spread due to drug abuse has been taking the lead for long, as survey of 2003 clearly shows that drug abuse is one of the major factors, constantly fueling the ghost of HIV/AIDS. Therefore, it becomes quite important to focus attention towards this mode of HIV/AIDS transmission on priority basis; otherwise, it would continue foraying into the Chinese society.
And in the present scenario, when all efforts to hold back HIV/AIDS, globally are coming to naught repeatedly, it becomes quite important to concentrate seriously on these other factors, as this is the only way to launch all round war against HIV/AIDS.
