New York- The stellar box office for “Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway” is positively covering the pockets of its star and producers. But the show and its fascinating song-and-dance Star Performers are also distributing the wealth, leading the fundraising crowd in this fall’s annual “Gypsy of the Year” episode profiting the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Just In three weeks of presentations during the six-week crusade, Jackman’s post-show demands to the audience for contributions lifted up a huge $857,740. That sum was fed by public sales of undershirts worn by Jackman in the show, which went up for $10,000 a pop.
Other leading fundraisers comprised of ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’ with audiences reacting to star Daniel Radcliffe’s fascinations by coughing up $325,935, while the boys from ‘The Book of Mormon’ settled for third amongst the Broadway participants, collecting $315, 968.
